What this app does with your data

DocScanner scans, stores, and manages documents entirely on your own device by default. There is no developer-operated server or backend — this policy exists because the app uses a few Google services (ads, optional cloud backup, sign-in) that have their own data practices.

Documents and scans

Scanned pages, PDFs, and any text extracted from them (OCR) are stored locally in the app's private storage on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly use the optional Google Drive backup feature described below.

Safe Box (PIN/biometric-protected vault)

Documents you move into Safe Box are encrypted at rest using a device-bound key stored in the Android Keystore. Only a salted hash of your PIN is stored (never the PIN itself), and it never leaves your device.

Optional Google Drive backup

If you sign in and enable backup, the app uploads your documents to a folder named "DocScanner" inside your own Google Drive account, using Google's Drive API. We (the developers) never see or receive this data — it is stored under your Google account, subject to Google's own privacy policy, and you can delete it at any time from Drive or by disabling backup in the app.
Sign-in uses Google Sign-In; the app only requests access to files it creates in your Drive (scoped Drive API access), not your entire Drive.

Advertising

The app shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect device/advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
Where required (e.g. under GDPR/UK regulations), the app shows a consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) the first time you open it, before loading personalized ads. Clearing the app's storage or reinstalling it will show this choice again.
You can temporarily remove ads by watching a rewarded ad; this only grants a time-limited ad-free period in the app and does not involve any purchase or payment data.

Crash reporting

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to automatically collect crash/error reports (e.g. device model, OS version, stack traces) so we can fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity or your documents.

Permissions the app requests

Biometric — to unlock Safe Box using your fingerprint/face, verified entirely on-device by the Android OS; the app never receives your biometric data itself.
Internet — required for the optional Drive backup, ads, and crash reporting described above.

Data we do not collect

We do not operate our own servers, do not sell your data, and do not have access to your scanned documents, OCR text, or Safe Box contents at any point — they either stay on your device or go directly to your own Google Drive account.

Your choices

Google Drive backup is off by default and fully optional; you can disable it at any time.
You can delete all local app data by uninstalling the app, or clearing app storage from Android Settings.

Children's privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will always reflect the most recent revision.
